Please note the earlier application opening and deadline
December 1: The Scholarship Application opens. (The link to the application will be available on our website; we will also share the link with guidance counselors at Maine public high schools so they can share it with their seniors.)
March 1: Applications, including transcript, recommendation letter, and Student Aid Index, are due.
April 1: Applicants’ acceptance letter and itemized financial aid offer (showing complete aid package, including loans, grants, work-study, etc.) from top-choice college (if available) are due.
- Applicants who cannot submit the acceptance letter and itemized financial aid offer from their top-choice college by April 1 may be asked to submit them if available during our review process.
- We may adjust the deadline for the Student Aid Index if issues arise with the FAFSA again this year.
- This new schedule will give students the winter break to work on applications.
- We will still send out certificates in late May to guidance counselors at Maine public high schools to allow for new Scholars to be recognized at graduations or senior award ceremonies.
- As in past years, applicants will have the opportunity to request transcripts and recommendations from guidance counselors and teachers directly through the application platform. Guidance Counselors: Please be sure to add automated.email@smarterselect.com to trusted sender lists to ensure that you’ll receive those notifications.
In the video below, Casey Near, Scholarship Director at the Mitchell Institute, explains why we have shifted the Mitchell Scholarship Application timeline up one month for 2024–2025 — to open December 1 and close March 1.
Guidance Counselors: Please update the scholarship materials that you make available to your students with:
1. The new application opening and closing dates listed above
2. The name of our new Scholarship Director, Casey Near
If you have questions about this adjusted timeline, please contact Scholarship Director Casey Near at cnear@mitchellinstitute.org or Scholarship Operations Manager Adam Thibodeau at athibodeau@mitchellinstitute.org.
